To fill the vacancy for the professorship of Audio Technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Media Technology, we are seeking a committed, practice-oriented individual with sound expertise in audio technology systems and applications. We are looking for a candidate with several years of professional experience in the field of audio technology, who combines practical expertise with academic reflection. You stand out through a strong enthusiasm for academic teaching as well as for knowledge and technology transfer between the university, industry, and society.

main tasks

In teaching, we expect you to independently represent the subject area of Audio Technology in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes of the faculty. In the field of media technology, you will deliver courses, among others, on the practical basics of sound engineering and audio applications, teach advanced techniques of audio production, and convey content in the fields of hearing and psychoacoustics. You will develop innovative teaching formats, promote project-based learning, and integrate current technological developments into your teaching.

Another central aspect of your role will be managing and further developing the excellently equipped laboratories, which offer outstanding infrastructure for practice-oriented teaching, applied research, and interdisciplinary projects.

We place particular emphasis on the field of research in artificial intelligence – especially in the context of audio-based applications. This includes, among other things, automated audio production, intelligent audio systems, as well as AI-supported methods for sound analysis and synthesis.

In addition to teaching and research, your area of responsibility also includes active participation in academic self-governance, assuming responsibility for promoting young researchers, and actively shaping international collaborations.

You are an empathetic, communicative personality who enjoys working in a team and actively contributes to professional and organisational networking within the faculty. In your teaching, you rely on modern didactic concepts and innovative methods.

You possess a relevant academic degree and outstanding subject-specific expertise, which you have demonstrated through several years of professional experience in the aforementioned areas and through successfully completed projects in the private sector. Please include meaningful work samples with your application that clearly demonstrate your professional expertise, your working approach, and your experience in the relevant application fields. We particularly welcome exemplary student project work that has been developed under your supervision.

Ideally, you have in-depth knowledge in the areas of room acoustics, loudspeaker measurement technology, signal processing, sound engineering, and audio system integration. Your practical experience with modern production environments – for example in the context of immersive audio formats, object-based audio technologies, live sound, as well as studio and post-production – enables you to handle current technologies and workflows with confidence In addition, you bring a basic understanding of related disciplines such as film and video production, AV-over-IP, or Extended Reality (xR). You are open to interdisciplinary exchange with colleagues from other fields.

Moreover, you possess the ability and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with adjacent disciplines within media technology. Your excellent command of English and German, both written and spoken, complete your profile.

• special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in professional practice of a minimum of five years, which must have been completed after obtaining the university degree and of which at least three years must have been completed outside of the higher education sector; in special cases, proof of professional practice outside the higher education sector can be provided by having completed a substantial part of the professional practice of a period of at least five years in cooperation between the higher education and non-higher education sectors.

The standard teaching requirement for full-time professors at universities of applied sciences is 18 teaching units per week per semester.

The Deggendorf Institute of Technology is one of the most dynamic and ambitious Universities of Applied Sciences in Southern Germany renowned for excellence in research.
